Pixel Carpet

2012

M. Žaltauskaitė-Grašienė represents contemporary textile art. Her works, characterized by the conceptual approach to textiles, aesthetics and high performance quality, unfold the synthesis of the traditional means of expression and modern performance technology. The author’s works are often based on sensitive and careful observations of human and his processes of life, tactile understanding (sensuality and intimate creative world, where important is touching and distinctive knitting of thoughts and associations). According to the artist, the work Pixel carpet is the transformation of observation, time and history. On the basis of the traditional motif of Persian carpets I created the abstract pattern of pixels. The transformations of image are important to me, where one cannot see a specific image from far away; when approaching, one starts to grasp what it is and when being quite close, again one sees in abstract way. This is a peculiar flow of time and history through the image, giving prominence to a moment, an instant, a flash.
